Huawei SAP Cloud Helps Migration of Applications to the Cloud

Dec 02, 2017 GMT+08:00

Huawei's SAP cloud solution focuses on IaaS services and management, implements both cloud-based SAP applications and HANA databases, as well as provides a unified architecture for public and private clouds. The superior technical capabilities of SAP cloud solution have gained customer trust with their solid foundation.

More and more enterprises using SAP applications are considering to empower innovation and improve efficiency with the help of cloud computing. A large proportion of cloud-based SAP applications, including Ariba, SuccessFactors, Fieldglass, Hybris, Concur, and Business One, help enterprises achieve new modes of growth. The cloud computing infrastructure and its applications promote the development of big data analysis and social mobility. Cloud computing encourages enterprises to innovate in real time through lowered costs, improved customer experiences, and quick commercial value attainments. Enterprises collect, share, manage, and perform analysis on large amounts of operation and user data. The in-depth analysis allows them to timely and comprehensively perform operations. In this way, cloud computing helps enterprises quickly achieve full digital transformation.

Huawei believes that enterprises are the leaders of "cloudification". Therefore, we strive to deeply understand their needs and develop innovative technologies to satisfy their requirements. With our in-depth understanding of customer requirements and our unified open cloud architecture, Huawei provides customers with deliverable and operable public, hybrid, and private cloud services. Our clouds emphasize openness, security, enterprise-level performance, and one-stop features. Huawei also advocates purpose-driven, value-adding construction of cloud ecosystems. Ideally, each participant within a cloud ecosystem should have its own niche.

During the big wave of migrating key enterprise applications to the cloud, Huawei has taken the lead in migrating SAP applications to the cloud by building the SAP cloud solution.

Bottlenecks of Traditional Data Centers

Although new technologies are continuously utilized in the IT field, the investment costs for hardware and data centers are still increasing. The slow return on investment with traditional data centers makes many enterprises be more inclined to use OPEX to construct infrastructures, thus actively starting to use cloud technologies. The migration of key enterprise applications requires both technology transformation and business revolution. The advantages of openness, collaboration, and free trials stimulate cloud technology implementation.

In traditional data centers, rolling out new SAP developed and tested services requires a lengthy preparation time. On average, from the ordering stage to completion, it takes six weeks to deliver the production and test environment for a service.

Due to the nature of traditional application features, such as CRM and supply chain, configuring the overall system, setting parameters, as well as scheduling and allocating resources cannot be performed in real time. For example, SAP resources are not equally allocated to the production, development, or test systems (more SAP resources are allocated to the production system). During peak hours, resource preemption can occur in the production system, even if resources in the development and test systems are idle. When installing multiple application servers for a system, you need to manually deploy and adjust the system. This architecture is urgently in need of transformation because of the following reasons:

l  The SAP service system architecture is overloaded and complex.

l  UNIX servers are very expensive.

l  Massive new services need to be processed by HANA's memory, but the current system architecture cannot meet their requirements.

Huawei SAP Cloud Solution

At the infrastructure layer, both the public and hosted cloud infrastructures for Huawei's SAP cloud solution are provided by carriers or Huawei, with private clouds built by enterprise users. Huawei provides SAP certified virtualization and IaaS layers. SAP provides application software and HANA databases adapted for Huawei's OpenStack-based cloud solution through cooperation with SAP partners and other integrators.
