About Telchina
Telchina Smart Industry Group Co., Ltd (Telchina) is a smart city solution provider that offers consulting and planning, integration services, and investment operations. It is a leading provider of smart city infrastructure products and solutions in China, and provides self-developed products in comprehensive urban management, underground space and pipe networks, urban water, urban grid management, urban lighting, and transportation. Founded in 2002, Telchina has been devoted to the construction of smart cities for 17 years. It has 700 employees, 18 branches, and has built a number of smart city projects in China and around the world. As a leader in smart lighting, Telchina has successful stories in over 200 cities across China, and its smart lighting solution is highly valued by customers.
Challenges
The urban lighting project is an important part of infrastructure construction, and is ubiquitous in public areas such as roads, streets, residential areas, and parks. The increasing number of streetlamps makes cities more beautiful and the lives of residents more convenient, but also adds great pressure to management.
In this case, a more efficient and energy-saving solution is urgently needed to manage streetlamps in a scientific way. This is a great challenge as well as a good opportunity for smart city solution providers, such as Telchina. In recent years, enterprises, including Telchina, have been actively exploring measures to develop smart streetlamps. Currently, interconnection technologies, including wired power line communication and wireless ZigBee, SigFox, and LoRa are applied in smart streetlamps. However, these technologies cannot fully connect the streetlamps distributed around the city.
Why HUAWEI CLOUD IoT
Traditional smart lighting solutions have many problems, such as the restrictions of PLC transmission, inflexible construction and installation, and poor stability. NB-IoT features high security, wide coverage, high connection volume, low power consumption, flexible deployment, high stability, and low cost. It can readily solve existing problems and facilitate the development of smart lighting.
- High accuracy and efficiency: NB-IoT smart lighting turns streetlamps on and off in an accurate and unified way, meeting special lighting requirements in emergencies and reducing O&M workload.
- Unlimited data transmission: In NB-IoT smart lighting, data transmission is no longer restricted by box-type substations or control cabinets. The monitoring center directly controls all streetlamps, solving issues posed by PLC restrictions.
- Convenient deployment: NB-IoT smart lighting is easy to deploy and requires no additional networking or special cabling. It can be deployed through either traditional deployment or ANSI interfaces, significantly reducing maintenance costs.
- Wide coverage: The NB-IoT technology brings the advantages of wide coverage, large capacity, high reliability, and low power consumption. It provides wider coverage in scenarios where streetlamps are located in complex environments or distributed unevenly.
With the development of smart cities, IoT, cloud computing, and big data technologies are widely used. NB-IoT based smart lighting will become a key indicator of digitized smart city management.
Solution
Telchina is working with Huawei to build its Smart Streetlamp solution, which connects smart streetlamps to Huawei's OceanConnect IoT platform through the NB-IoT network. The platform exchanges data with the Smart Streetlamp app and provides visualized management based on the Geographic Information System (GIS).
The solution does not require intermediate smart gateways in smart streetlamp deployment. Data is directly uploaded to the cloud, reducing communication and fault risks, improving stability and reliability, and cutting down on deployment costs. The IoT platform enables administrators to query the status of each streetlamp in each block and changes the management model from group to single-lamp control.
Lighting administrators can set flexible lighting policies based on the time, people flow, traffic flow, and weather conditions to reduce energy by up to 30%. In addition, compared with the traditional manual inspection and fault reporting by hotline, administrators can inspect the status, current, voltage, and fault information of each lamp online in real time to greatly improve the O&M efficiency of lighting devices.

Benefits
Telchina and Huawei partnered to build the Yingtan Smart Lighting project, the first large-scale commercial NB-IoT based smart streetlamp project in the world. In 2018, Telchina's smart lighting business revenue exceeded US$1.4 million, ranking top 3 in market share. Currently, Telchina smart lighting monitoring and management system has more than 200 mature use cases across China and operates stably in various extreme environments. With independent intellectual property rights, the system is leading the industry.
In recent years, Telchina has actively expanded its business globally. Powered by HUAWEI CLOUD, the NB-IoT smart lighting monitoring and management system has been deployed in Thailand, Malaysia, Canada, the UK, Germany, Italy, and Malaysia, and is highly valued by customers.
