Why Huawei Cloud?
ChainStar is facing in various ways pressure in business operations. The biggest pressure comes from vendor lock-in caused by reliance on a single cloud provider, which greatly limits their flexibility and options and is forced to bear the pressure of increasing costs. Moreover, reliance on a single cloud provider also makes customers more vulnerable to service disruptions or failures, and any failure in the current system could disrupt ChainStar's entire operations and degrade the user experience. This demonstrates the need for ChainStar to optimize performance and quality of service through a multicloud strategy.
ChainStar originally uses TiDB, which is complex to deploy and manage and requires more learning and training. Compared with GuessDB for MySQL, ChainStar consumes more computing and storage resources. Compared with other cloud databases with the same configuration, TiDB is more expensive for the same duration of use, but has lower performance, making ChainStar do not perform well in processing large-scale data and complex queries while investing more money in TiDB. This reduces ChainStar's own productivity and customer experience, demonstrating the need for higher-performance cloud databases to process data.
Solutions
As a cloud-native organization, ChainStar moved all of its infrastructure to the cloud. By cooperating with Huawei Cloud, ChainStar has successfully transferred all resources to the containerized Kubernetes environment. That is, ChainStar's system is containerized, from the application server to the database and message queuing. Now, ChainStar is able to effectively reduce costs by using technologies such as CCE and CCI, especially in DevOps and infrastructure management.
ChainStar's organization has fully embraced an automated approach, with Terraform to simplify and accelerate the deployment process to improve operational efficiency. In addition, ChainStar has strategically moved from a serverless architecture to a server-based architecture to improve cost efficiency. Provides better availability for read operations by implementing a primary/secondary data replication policy in a multicloud environment.
Huawei Cloud provides more cost-effective and high-performance GaussDB for MySQL for ChainStar, meeting ChainStar's requirements for reducing costs and improving system performance.
