Bangkok Pattaya Hospital, the first private hospital in ASEAN, in cooperation with Huawei and Chanwanich, introduces AI solutions in a bid to boost its fight against Covid-19

Bangkok Hospital Pattaya, an affiliate of BDMS, in cooperation with Huawei Technologies (Thailand) Co., Ltd., HY Medical from China, and Chanwanich Co., Ltd. (Chanwanich), jointly developed Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology to assist in the screening and diagnosis for traces in patients undergoing treatment for COVID-19, a technology that has successfully used in tackling the COVID-19 crisis in China, thereby establishing Bangkok Hospital Pattaya to be regarded as the first private hospital in the region that has adopted such technology which will be used to help support medical personnel in more accurate screening and diagnosis of the virus.

In the cooperation effort, Bangkok Hospital Pattaya, an affiliate of BDMS, will provide medical personnel support to help diagnose, conduct testing and receive the transfer of technical know-how and the various models of analysis together with experts from China. The technology is supported by Huawei and HY Medical, in transferring ideas and lessons for system installation guidelines through remote communication systems from China, with Chanwanich taking the lead in adapting for it to work efficiently in Thailand. Collaborative brainstorming and ideas were contributed from the hospital’s radiologists, as well as analysis of x-rays and CT scans together with support from the IT and 4 technical support teams, consultants and experts from China, to enable the system to work successfully.

Huawei’s AI solution on HUAWEI CLOUD diagnoses CT quantification results for the analysis of COVID-19 infection in patients’ lungs. Moreover, the AI solution also effectively identifies the phase of infection: early, advanced, and severe stages with the high accuracy rate of 96% for image analyzing per case within seconds. Currently, there are over 20 hospitals in China that adopt this artificial intelligence technology to encounter the COVID-19 situation. Recently, in Thailand, Huawei has provided the solution to Ramathibodi Hospital and Siriraj Hospital.

Chanwanich Co., Ltd. sent a development and support team to help in the successful transfer of knowledge and technology to Thailand, and this team is also responsible for driving the interlinking of all operations to enable it to commence work immediately. The entire process took only 2 weeks, starting from initial discussions, setting up of the system, and finally the cutover to actual usage. Chanwanich is determined to develop health and public health systems in a bid to upgrade the medical capability for Thais, to evolve into a comprehensive “integrated health solution”.
