On June 15th, over 30 young entrepreneurs and mentors from Africa visited Huawei's headquarter in Shenzhen, China. These young entrepreneurs are members of the China Merchants African Youth Innovation and Entrepreneurship Program (C-STAR). They come with their entrepreneurship projects and business plans and hope to establish connections with leading enterprises to explore more opportunities. The event was hosted by the Huawei Cloud startup ecosystem team. The two sides held in-depth discussions of new trends in technological entrepreneurship, including AI, cross-border e-commerce, and green development. Entrepreneurial experience from both sides were shared with a common goal of contributing to the China-Africa innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem.
William Dong, the head of Huawei Cloud's Marketing department, announced in his welcome speech that Huawei Cloud will continue to fulfill its social responsibility by opening up its global infrastructure, technology, services, and ecosystem to the world. Huawei Cloud will bring its latest technology and rich industry digitalization experience to Africa through cloud services and will work on development together with customers and partners alike. Through the Huawei Cloud Startup Program, Huawei Cloud is committed to empower more entrepreneurs to realize their dreams.
These young entrepreneurs were mainly from Djibouti, Ethiopia, Kenya, and Uganda. Through various lively exchanges, they learned about Huawei Cloud's global experience and services and established connections with outstanding entrepreneurs and venture capital institutions from the Huawei Cloud startup ecosystem. They also received tailored benefits and support provided in the Huawei Cloud Startup Program.
Huawei Cloud is committed to creating a global startup ecosystem to accelerate the development of promising startups. At the Huawei Cloud Middle East and Africa Summit in March 2023, Huawei Cloud officially launched the "Huawei Cloud Startup Program" for Middle East, Central Asia, and Africa. The program provides three key benefits to founders wherever they are on their startup journey: cloud platform support, startup empowerment, and business opportunities. Within three years, the Huawei Cloud platform and ecosystem will help 1,000 start-ups in the Middle East and Africa.
Since its launch in 2018, Huawei Cloud, the fastest-growing cloud in Africa, has served hundreds of Chinese-funded and local customers, covering industries including pan-government, Internet, education, manufacturing, mining, and logistics. Its compound annual growth rate has exceeded 200% for three consecutive years, and it has grown into a top-tier public cloud provider in Africa.
The C-STAR, a public welfare project, is funded by China Merchants Property Development Co., Ltd. It was first officially launched in 2022 and Africa was the first region where the program was carried out. The project is based on the principle that if you give a man a fish, he eats for a day, but if you teach him how to fish, he eats for life. It is committed to cultivating young leaders or entrepreneurial elites and incubating representative entrepreneurial projects to create more jobs for young people and drive local economic development.
"Everything as a Service" is one of the consistent strategies of Huawei Cloud. Huawei Cloud is devoted to transforming data into productivity and establishing a cloud foundation for an intelligent world. It empowers entrepreneurs and injects innovative vitality into communities in the form of technology, marketing, and talent development.
