Stable, Fast, and Comprehensive: Huawei Cloud Databases Offer a Better Way for an Intelligent Future
Sep 19, 2025
From September 18 to 20, HUAWEI CONNECT 2025 was held in Shanghai. The theme was "All Intelligence." During the event, a Huawei Cloud database session named Huawei Cloud Databases: A Better Way for an Intelligent Future was hosted, and Huawei Cloud databases were talked about in several keynote speeches.
In his keynote speech, Eric Xu, Deputy Chairman and Rotating Chairman of Huawei, said that Huawei was the first in the industry to introduce supernodes into the realm of general-purpose computing. Huawei launched the world's first general-purpose compute supernode, TaiShan 950 SuperPoD, which is integrated into GaussDB, Huawei's distributed database product. This supernode can completely replace mainframes, midrange servers, and Exadata database appliances across diverse scenarios.
Eric Xu, Deputy Chairman and Rotating Chairman of Huawei
Zhang Ping'an, Huawei's Executive Director of the Board and CEO of Huawei Cloud, shared how Huawei Cloud GaussDB deployed based on general-purpose computing supernodes enables layered pooling of compute, memory, and storage resources, providing an efficient and reliable data foundation for mission-critical workloads. For example, the core system of a large bank uses this technology to process more than one million transactions per second during peak hours. GaussDB allows multi-read and multi-write on any node at the same time, breaking away from the restrictions of a traditional architecture, where only the primary node supports data read and write operations. GaussDB databases support dynamic load scheduling, greatly improving the performance of concurrent transaction processing. Real-world tests show that a GaussDB three-node cluster deployed based on general-purpose computing supernodes can process 5.4 million transactions per minute. This marks a 2.9-fold performance improvement over a centralized Kunpeng-based platform. Moreover, GaussDB's innovative adjacent-node fault detection and on-demand restoration allow for rapid cluster node recovery within 6 seconds, cutting recovery time by more than half compared to traditional fault detection methods.

During a session with the theme, Huawei Cloud Databases: A Better Way for an Intelligent Future, the GaussDB Maintenance White Paper for the Financial Sector was released. This white paper introduced technical upgrades, industry practices, and partner achievements with Huawei Cloud databases and explored possibilities in the AI era.

The GaussDB pooling-based transparent multi-write architecture represents significant advancements in terms of performance, reliability, and scalability. With this architecture, application performance is doubled, and the time needed for large-scale cluster fault detection is less than 2 seconds.
TaurusDB is 100% compatible with PostgreSQL, boosts performance by 30%, and cuts costs by 50%. Additionally, its AI-based serverless architecture enables seamless resource scaling within seconds and ensures zero downtime.
GeminiDB uses an innovative multitenant serverless architecture, improving resource cost-effectiveness. For key-value scenarios, intelligent shard splitting is supported. DynamoDB and HBase APIs are supported now.
These diverse innovations provide robust support for the stable operations, iterations, and use case expansion of core applications, helping enterprises gain a competitive edge in digital transformation.
White Paper Release
The stability and security of databases are the backbone of financial systems. They underpin the movement of trillions in capital and ensure the security of transactions for hundreds of millions of users. Only through standardized operations and maintenance (O&M) can database systems evolve from mere alternatives to true leading databases. Accelerating the development of a standardized database O&M framework has become a shared priority for numerous financial enterprises.
In this regard, the Beijing FinTech Industry Alliance took the lead and worked together with Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC), Postal Savings Bank of China, Bank of China, Bank of Communications, Huaxia Bank, and Huawei Cloud to compile the GaussDB Maintenance White Paper for the Financial Sector. Ge Weihao, Service Expert of Huawei China Finance Account Dept, Wu Xiaoye, Senior Manager of ICBC Data Center, and Dou Deming, Chief Product Expert of Huawei Cloud Database, attended the release ceremony of this white paper. The white paper analyzes the challenges faced in database O&M within the financial sector. It introduces the application, financial-grade O&M system, typical O&M scenarios, and practical cases of GaussDB. It also provides the outlook for the evolution of O&M models and future technological development of GaussDB. The white paper provides a robust basis for advancing financial databases from being merely functional to becoming user-friendly and easy to maintain.

Industry Practices
At the Huawei Cloud database session, enterprise representatives shared their experiences working with Huawei Cloud databases.
Yang Xiaobin, General Manager of the Service Platform O&M Department of CITIC Digital Technology, noted that the company's partnership with Huawei Cloud dates back to 2020, when CITIC Cloud first connected to Huawei Cloud and successfully migrated its first batch of applications. The following year, CITIC Digital Technology achieved a major milestone with its first project, valued at about CNY1 million. Leveraging Huawei FinTech Cloud Infrastructure and TaurusDB, CITIC Digital Technology built a robust financial cloud foundation for CITIC Cloud to accelerate cloud migration of their core applications. TaurusDB supports shared data access, decoupled storage and compute, decoupled primary and standby instances, full-process encryption, and an ultra-high reliability with zero RPO. These capabilities have enabled the financial cloud platform of CITIC Cloud to operate efficiently and stably 24/7, with zero changes to applications. Looking ahead, CITIC Digital Technology plans to further integrate Huawei Cloud databases into more sectors like integrated finance, advanced manufacturing, and new materials, aiming to lay a secure, reliable, efficient data foundation for future innovation.

Burak Gocmen, Chief Information Officer (CIO) of Türkiye's Logo Group, shared his insights on collaborating with Huawei Cloud databases. Logo Group is the largest public software company in Türkiye. They operate in over 60 countries and offer solutions including ERP, human resource management, electronic invoicing, and customer relationship management. In 2023, Logo Group began using Huawei Cloud databases to develop highly reliable and cost-effective SaaS solutions. They implemented a geo-redundant HA architecture, deploying two active-active sites in Istanbul and one disaster recovery (DR) site in Ankara. This setup achieved zero RPO for intra-city cross-DC HA in Istanbul, automatic failovers, robust data backup and restoration, and 99.98% availability for their services. Furthermore, using a one-stop migration solution that integrates UGO and DRS, they completed end-to-end automated data migration, with 80% of the code not requiring any modification at all. The high compatibility of TaurusDB minimized migration costs and risks. Through this collaboration, Logo Group optimized their technical architecture, reduced TCO by 65%, shortened the time for new application GTM from months to days, reduced the application latency from 50 ms to 15 ms, and accelerated the development of their core services.

Real-Time Advertising (RTA) serves as a critical bridge between media platforms and advertisers, playing a central role in traffic control, data collection, and targeted advertising. Wu Di, CTO of WETECH, shared how the RTA system of WETECH handles massive volumes of data and supports ultra-high concurrency and low latency. To meet these demands while controlling costs, the database must deliver both high stability and exceptional performance. GeminiDB has become the core accelerator of their RTA system, supporting millions of concurrent read/write operations with an average latency of less than 0.2 milliseconds in live production. Powered by the enterprise-grade DB Load feature, data can be imported to the database within minutes. The data import speed has been improved by 5 times, meeting the WETECH's need for rapid ingestion of petabytes of user characteristic data. Through independent scaling of compute and storage, along with automatic storage scaling, GeminiDB ensures zero downtime during specifications upgrade. This helped WETECH cut costs by over 30% and deliver targeted advertising.
