What Is GaussDB(for MySQL)

GaussDB(for MySQL) is a MySQL-compatible, enterprise-grade distributed database service. It uses a decoupled compute and storage architecture and data functions virtualization (DFV) storage that auto-scales up to 128 TB per instance. It supports failover within seconds, combining the performance and reliability of commercial databases with the flexibility of open source databases.


It is fully compatible with MySQL. You can easily migrate your MySQL databases to GaussDB(for MySQL) without refactoring existing applications.


A GaussDB(for MySQL) instance can be deployed across three AZs or across regions to improve DR capabilities.

  • Near Data Processing (NDP)

    GaussDB(for MySQL) uses a NDP framework. For data-intensive queries, operations such as column extraction, condition filtering, and aggregation calculation are pushed to multiple nodes on a distributed storage layer for parallel execution. This improves parallel and query processing capabilities, and reduces network traffic pressure on compute nodes.

    GaussDB(for MySQL) provides a larger discount than pay-per-use billing and is recommended for long-term use. If the storage space of a yearly/monthly instance is full, the additional space will be billed on a pay-per-use basis.

    Data Admin Service (DAS) enables you to manage GaussDB(for MySQL) databases on a web-based console. It supports SQL execution, advanced database management, and intelligent O&M, simplifying database management and improving efficiency and data security. The permission of connecting to GaussDB(for MySQL) instances through DAS is enabled by default. No IP address is required.

    · Over a private network

    A private IP address is provided by default. When your applications are deployed on an Elastic Cloud Server (ECS) that is in the same region and VPC as your GaussDB(for MySQL) instance, you are advised to connect the ECS to the instance over a private IP address.

    · Over a public network

    If you cannot access the GaussDB(for MySQL) instance over a private IP address, bind an Elastic IP (EIP) to the instance and connect it to the ECS (or a public network host) over the EIP.
