Ubiquitous Cloud Native Service (UCS) is now available on Huawei Cloud. UCS is the first of its kind in the industry to support distributed cloud native. That means you can manage your Kubernetes clusters, distributed across Huawei Cloud, third-party clouds, edge, or on-premises, all in one place.

Such cross-location, cross-cluster support delivers consistent development, operation, and security management for applications. UCS is technically advanced in the following ways:

One connection, all scenarios

UCS can connect and manage Kubernetes clusters on any infrastructure in any region, such as Huawei Cloud, third-party clouds, customer premises, and edge. You can build fleets to host global clusters, and establish operational consistency between fleets. In this way, your cloud native applications can run anywhere on any Kubernetes platform.

One scheduler, best-fit deployment

UCS runs on Karmada, a multi-cloud container orchestration project donated by Huawei Cloud to Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF). Working with Volcano, a batch container scheduler, UCS provisions compute capacity of the right amount, at the right time, in the right place. UCS also keeps optimizing app distribution via policies, auto scaling, self-healing, and graceful failover across clouds and clusters. Your business can go lean and smart.

One service mesh, global traffic managed

Using service mesh and global server load balancing (GSLB), UCS manages cloud-app and app-app traffic based on weight and content. User requests are processed by the nearest backend service to reduce latency. Other advanced functions include grayscale release, failover, outlier detection, and traffic limiting.

One O&M, 24/7 protection

UCS integrates Intelligent Container Analysis (CIA) to provide health checks, diagnosis, 24/7 monitoring, and AIOps for global clusters. Compatible with Prometheus and OpenTelemetry, CIA eases O&M for your fleets of cloud native services.

One ecosystem, cross-location distribution

Operator Service Center (OSC) in UCS provides 150+ ready-to-use cloud native applications. ISV developers upload compliant apps for users to subscribe to. Users can distribute the selected apps to their clusters and edge nodes running everywhere in a few clicks. In this way, the same app can run at each service site, extending cloud native to where you need it.

One platform, multiple scenarios

UCS has been used by customers in automobile, smart manufacturing, Internet, and finance industries.

Automobile

New services are emerging, such as digital marketing, smart production, and smart stores. Automobile companies may deploy traditional IT services on-premises, marketing and new IT services on distributed cloud, new services on public cloud, and digital factories in small equipment rooms. UCS can connect all these resources to centrally manage compute, traffic, and data. For the AI training and simulation in autonomous driving, there may be load bursts in the case of task overflows. UCS can burst these unexpected tasks from the local DC to the public cloud, providing the exact compute capacity needed while reducing costs.

Smart manufacturing

UCS can be the solution for manufacturers to modernize their applications and adopt fast responsive modular microservices. UCS extends cloud native to the factory edge. Data is collected from the factory, analyzed on the cloud, and sent back to the edge. With AI tools, factories become data-driven to make decisions at the edge. Such distributed cloud collaboration provides greater consistency and flexibility, and helps customers go real digital.

Games

More and more Chinese game companies are going global. They need to quickly replicate services deployed on the public cloud in China to other environments. UCS allows users to build cloud native applications on any Kubernetes cluster on any cloud. Apps are developed, deployed, and managed all the same.

Finance

Finance values speed. They want faster delivery of innovative banking solutions without sacrificing security and compliance. UCS allows users to deploy local clusters to their data centers to satisfy data localization, data storage, and security needs. UCS delivers higher efficiency thanks to the cloud native services it provides.
