Solution Restart the ECS on the console and enter the single-user mode. For details, see How Do I Reset the Password for User root in Single-User Mode on a Linux ECS? Check the /etc/passwd file. cat /etc/passwd Check whether the passwd file is corrupted.
Configuring Metadata (At ECS Runtime) Log in to the management console. Click in the upper left corner and select a region and project. Click . Choose Compute > Elastic Cloud Server. In the ECS list, click the target ECS to go to the ECS details page.
Log in to the ECS as user root.
